The Meeting (How They Met)
Daniel Wilcox, former NFL player for the Baltimore Ravens, NY Jets, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, laid eyes on his princess, Shauna Chin, on a visit to Puerto Rico in the winter of 2006. Daniel encountered Shauna when she was getting on the elevator of their hotel, and he was getting off. For Daniel, it was love at first site. Shauna also took notice; however, she was not immediately impressed by Daniel’s status of being a football player. She felt he was a player on and off the field, until she learned later that he only had eyes for her.
A Year Later…
Shauna and Daniel had no contact with one another for a year, until fate place them in the same place at the same time. Shauna, who is from Belize, was back in her native country working. One Friday night she decided to go out on the town with her cousin. Coincidentally, Daniel’s college buddy, who is also from Belize, convinced Daniel to accompany him on his trip back to Belize. On Daniel’s first night in Belize, he ran into Shauna shortly after his arrival. They immediately greeted each other and reminisced about their prior encounter. Shauna still was not impressed by Daniel. She even tried to convince her cousin to entertain Daniel. No matter- Daniel made it clear he only had eyes for Shauna. Two days following, the two met at San Pedro Caye, and walked the night away. Shauna recalls, “We both knew there were no more games to be played from the both of us”. From that moment on, they both knew they did not want to be apart…and they weren’t.
Back in the United States, Daniel knew his princess was back in Belize. He constantly reminded Shauna how much he loved her while apart, and showed her how he was not the stereotyped athlete. Daniel was prepared to prove how committed he was to her, in spite of oceans separating them.
Meet the Family
Before training camp, Daniel knew there was one more important factor before he sealed the deal with Shauna: meet his son. Daniel introduced Shauna to his then 2 year old son, and he immediately fell in love with Shauna, and she immediately fell in love with him. For Daniel, he knew that Shauna would complete the family. The three then traveled to Florida. On that visit, Daniel also met Shauna’s family and friends. He consulted with her friends to see what would be the best way to ask Shauna for her hand in marriage.
The Proposal
Daniel reserved a room in a cabin in the Appalachian mountain, where he formerly played college football. He awoke early in the morning and prepared breakfast for Shauna- while she was asleep. When she awakened, there were tokens of his appreciation for her around the room, each token directed her to the next token of love. The last token was Daniel holding a dozen roses, and a beautiful diamond engagement ring. Shauna was completely surprised, when he dropped down on one knee and professed his eternal love for her. She said Y-E-S!
The Wedding
The wedding took place at M & T stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens. They were a royal couple. With over 350 guests in attendance on the 50-yard line, Shauna was marched in via horse and carriage, quite befitting a queen.
Update:
Shauna and Daniel currently reside in Atlanta, GA. They are eagerly awaiting the addition to their family, Julian Daniel, due in May.
Shauna and Daniel’s advice to young couples: “Take your wedding vows seriously. Uphold your vows: for better or worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish…until death do us part.”
